“Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.” – Abraham Maslow

I believe our natural inclination is toward growth, but we need the support of others. My style is warm, and I aim to help you see the possibilities in yourself and your life. I will deeply listen to you, which sometimes means listening for the things you are afraid to say, but need to say. I offer a safe space without judgment where you can strive for your personal goals.
I am a graduate student providing counseling through an internship. I hold a Bachelor of Arts from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Florida. Before entering my counseling program, I taught English and creative writing classes part-time at the University of North Florida. I am a career changer, currently finishing my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Jacksonville University, a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Under the guidance of qualified supervisors, I am obtaining internship hours. I am also a wife of many years, a mother, and a writer. I value learning and staying open to different points of view.
I will be authentic with you—helping you identify patterns and develop strategies—but you will be the one making choices. This is not always easy. Therapy can be uncomfortable because you may discover aspects about yourself, your relationship with others, or your environment that you need to change in order to be able to grow in the ways you want. For many people, the work needed is worth it. The work can bring hope, empowerment, and ultimately, positive change.
As a systems-oriented counseling intern, I enjoy helping clients from many walks of life. Some of my interests include couples, family relationships, anxiety, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), mood disorders, trauma, artists and creatives, highly sensitive people (HSP), multiculturalism, identity, and life transitions.
I work from a humanistic and family systems framework. I want you to self-actualize, helping you live to your potential. I also use interventions from a variety of counseling approaches, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), solution-oriented therapy, Gestalt therapy, trauma-informed counseling, and narrative therapy. Most importantly, I customize my approach to you and your needs. Counseling is a shared journey.
